Don't Reset That Epson Yet: A Quality Manager's Perspective on Print Failures

Texture UV printing is not just thicker ink. It requires precise control of droplet size, lamp curing, and a variable height mechanism. If you print texture on a flatbed without proper z-height control, the effect looks lumpy, not raised. That's not a printer defect. It's a feature mismatch.

I once evaluated a personal UV printer for a client who wanted textured phone cases. The salesman promised “texture on demand.” The actual output was inconsistent — but the printer was working perfectly. The problem was that the operator had set the texture layer too thin, and the ink didn't cure evenly. We adjusted the profile and reran the job. Perfect texture, same machine. In quality, the process is part of the product.

The hidden cost: output quality becomes brand quality

  • Check the media. Is it inkjet-compatible?

  • Check the file resolution. 300 DPI at final size is the standard for close-up printed material.
