Can any Epson printer be converted for sublimation or DTF?
Short answer: no. The idea that any Epson can be converted comes from an era when Epson's piezo printheads were easier to retrofit with aftermarket ink and chips. Those days are gone. Modern Epson printers use different inks, different firmware, and in some cases, different printhead cleaning cycles. If you force sublimation ink into an EcoTank like the ET-2850, you're voiding the warranty and risking permanent printhead damage.
Epson sells dedicated machines for this. The SureColor F570 is a sublimation printer. The F1070 and F170 are DTF models. They're not cheap, but the printhead, ink, and profiles were engineered to work together. I get why people look for workarounds—dedicated machines are a bigger investment. But from a quality-control view, a converted printer is the reason I see banding, color shift, and poor wash fastness. It's not that the printer is bad. It's that the wrong ink is in it.
